FAQ

Detailed information about the conference for speakers will be updated here. Check this page often if you are submitting a proposal. If you have additional questions, please contact us anytime by email at conference@ebvma.org

The deadline for the Request for Speaker Proposals is pending.

All proposals, including a concise abstract of your presentation or tutorial, will be reviewed by the Planning Committee. The committee is also seeking speakers including one or more keynotes as well.

Submissions must be submitted to the EasyChair Conference System. The EasyChair conference ID is EBVMA-2016. You must register for an EasyChair account first. After logging in, you can then select the New Submission tab at the top of the page. Please fill out the title, abstract, keywords, topics (introductory, advanced or forum), and other details as requested. You may submit file attachments as long as they are within an open standard format (e.g. PDF, plain text, HTML, LaTeX, Open Document Format or Office Open XML).

The most current, detailed and canonical source of conference information is available on the speaker requirements page. Please refer to the this page frequently for more information, including updated deadlines, requirements, the suggested range or scope of topics, a synopsis of past presentations and contact information.

Speakers will be given open content licensing (Creative Commons) assigned to their work and a similar license for distribution by the EBVMA. All speakers must agree to the preparation of a slide deck, a proceedings paper and agree to be recorded (audio only, talking head over slides). The slidedeck will will primarly be used to accompany your presentation live or as part of the audio recording when published after an embargo period or time-shifted delivery for continuing education.

Once accepted to present, the following summarizes basic requirements for preparation. Again, please refer to our conference details page for current and more detailed information. All speakers will receive an honorarium (to be determined based on attendance and reconciliation of fees with expenses) and complimentary Symposium registration

1. All speakers must agree to the assignment of an open content license to their work. By default, the EBVMA will assign a Creative Commons-Attribution 4.0 International License. However, we encourage you to retain the same or compatible license to your work which will allow us to share and distribute it as well.
2. A Symposium proceedings paper. The final paper will be prepared and rendered by the EBVMA with a template in LaTeX. You only need to submit a document containing the required sections (no formatting is required) in text or any other open standard document format. The EBVMA may also sign a persistent PURL or DOI/Crossref (tentative) identifier to your proceedings paper using an EBVMA namespace.
3. A slidedeck to accompany your presentation
4. A speaker biography including affiliation and other details as outlined on our requirements page
5. A headshot (optional)
6. A brief training and rehearsal using the conference tool (GoToWebinar/Adobe Connect) prior to the event
7. A high quality dedicated microphone and headphones or headset, a wired (ethernet, not WiFi, if possible) broadband internet connection and a quiet environment. We may also be able to provide additional hardware if required.

Yes! While we explore the delivery of online research presentations and continuing-education we felt the burden of an online event more than 6-8 hours was too much. Past Symposia have ranged from 1-3 days.

The EBVMA is discussing the feasibility of a regular AAVSB/RACE approved seminar series (webinars), including educational podcasts, held periodically throughout the year. Your thoughtful feedback is greatly appreciated.

We also don't plan to abandon face-to-face events. If you are interested in collaborative working meetings, tutorials, delivery of EBVM research or education at other meetings or other "meet-ups", please let us know

We also encourage EBVMA members to contribute to evidence-based veterinary medicine's body of knowledge by preparing a journal article, Critically Appraised Topic, blog post, netcast (screencast or podcast) or other forms of knowledge delivery.

Please contact us anytime at info@ebvma.org

We do not plan to schedule an open-forum session at this time. Depending on responses this summer, we may decide to include this or schedule an open forum as a separate event.

Attendee Requirements

The webinar will enable live interaction between speakers and attendees

  • Broadband Internet
A broadband internet connection (DSL, Cable, Fiber, LTE, etc.) is required. An ethernet connection (wired) is also preferable to WiFi (wireless).
  • Computer
A modern computer (desktop, laptop, tablet) running either Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Android, x86 or ARM based Windows 8/RT. We recommend Webkit (e.g. Google Chrome or Apple Safari) or Gecko (e.g. Mozilla Firefox) web browsers. We may be able to support Linux users depending on our final solution (GoToWebinar vs. Adobe Connect).
  • Audio
A dedicated high quality microphone and headphones or an integrated headset (e.g. broadcast or gaming quality) with a mute button is ideal. Video (webcam) is not required.
  • Most importantly
    Your knowledge and enthusiasm!

The Symposium will be held Friday, 10 February 2017.

Registrations close 24 hours before the start of the event.

If you're not an EBVMA member, please register for updates (above) or subscribe to the general EBMVA newsletter (below). These are both low-volume, announcement only mailing lists. We also respect your privacy and promise not to send your information to third parties or spam you.

Pricing and registration will be available during the Fall of 2016 through Brown Paper Tickets, our event processor.

The best part is it won't cost you anything for travel, including airfare, cabs, hotels and bad buffet food.

If you're not a member, please register for updates (above) or subscribe to the general EBMVA newsletter (below). These are both low-volume, announcement only mailing lists. We also respect your privacy and promise not to send your information to third parties or spam you. If you're not a member, you may register for EBVMA membership ahead of time or there's an option for new membership or renewals on the registration page.

The EBVMA is AAVSB/RACE provider #895. We will submit an application to RACE once the program has been finalized during the Fall of 2016. CE/CPD credits from previous years has averaged about 7 credits. Registrants will receive CE certificates by mail within one-week following the Symposium based on their attendance.

Because the Symposium will be held live online for registered participants, our conference system will track your presence with considerable detail throughout the event. The Certificate of Attendance will be based on your time of attendance during each CE unit hour (or portion thereof) during the Essentials and Advanced sessions, but not the Open Forum.

Because states (U.S.) retain the right to "refuse, partially or in full" RACE approved programs, please check with your state veterinary licensing board for more information as well.
